Rovsing to deliver SIS PFE’s for the PLATO mission

In December 2019 Rovsing signed a contract with Thales Alenia Space (TAS) in UK for providing 3 sets of Satellite Interface Simulator (SIS) Power Front-Ends (PFE) in support of the PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars (PLATO) mission.

PLATO is the third medium-class mission in ESA’s Cosmic Vision programme. Its objective is to find and study a large number of extrasolar planetary systems, with emphasis on the properties of terrestrial planets in the habitable zone around solar-like stars. PLATO has also been designed to investigate seismic activity in stars, enabling the precise characterisation of the planet host star, including its age.

Rovsing has been working on the project on a basis of a Preliminary Authorization to Proceed (PATP) since late August 2019. The project has concluded the Design Review and the 1 set will be delivered early 2020, with the 2 remaining sets to be delivered through the course of the spring. Each SIS PFE set uses the Rovsing Second Level Protection (SLP) together with a number of Rovsing Latching Current Limiters (LCLs) hosted in Power Front-Ends and controlled with the Rovsing EGSE Controller SW Suite.
