Test Readiness Review for SMILE PLM EGSE completed

Satellite: SMILE
Copyright: CAS/ESA

24th of July, Rovsing successfully completed the Test Readiness Review (TRR) for the Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer (SMILE) Payload module (PLM) Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE). The TRR was approved by the costumer Airbus DS Spain and ESA, providing Rovsing with authorization to start testing of the EGSE with aim of delivery in the early autumn.

SMILE is a joint science mission between Chinese Academy of Sciences (providing the service and propulsion module) and European Space Agency (providing the payload). The SMILE mission aim is to increase our understanding of the connection between the dynamic interaction of the solar wind with the Earths magnetosphere.

The PLM EGSE will be used by Airbus DS for verification and validation of the SMILE Payload module (PLM) before integration with the service and propulsion module.  The PLM EGSE provides the PLM with power, heater control and monitoring of discrete signals. In addition, the PLM EGSE provides UART communication and synchronization lines for controlling and receiving data from the PLM.

The PLM EGSE also hosts a Central Checkout System (CCS) allowing the PLM EGSE to control other EGSE’s needed for payload system verification and validation.
